for 1 medium pizza that will serve 2 - double the recipe for 2 pizzas
Ingredients:
- 1-1/2 - 1-3/4 cups of flour (you can use part whole wheat flour if you desire)
- 1 tsp yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 - 3/4 cups of warm water (depends on flour used and humidity)
Mix dry ingredients together first, then add the warm water slowly until you have a workable dough. Knead 5 - 6 minutes until it feels smooth and elastic.
Place dough in a heavy ceramic bowl that has been oiled, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for at least 1 hour.
Punch the dough down.
Turn on oven to 450 F. (If you have a pizza stone, this is the time to put it in the oven to heat it up)
Shape and roll dough into shape and thickness you desire and place it on your desired oiled baking sheet or pizza pan (if you have a pizza board, sprinkle it with corn meal, and place the dough on top). Add your toppings: beginning with a little olive oil, tomato sauce or prepared pizza sauce, grated mozzarella, mushrooms, slices of other vegetables or sausages of your choice, but don't overload it. Add herbs such as mixed Italian herbs (such as oregano, marjoram, thyme, parsley) Top with grated parmesan and/or romano cheese.
Place in oven and bake for 10 - 12 minutes or until pizza is browned and is bubbling a little.
